5 March 1891 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Thursday. 5th March [1891]. Henry’s birthday. Painted Nela’s portrait & Mr Woods was kind eno’ to come after breakfast to look over & advise me. He very kindly remained an hour & corrected & changed. He approves the drawing but condemns the painting. Cut out toilet covers for the room Cornelia is to occupy &c. Edith Bronson came here directly after lunch & we practised guitars together. Mr Eden came in his steam launch & took Nela to Mestre with him. We took Edith to her home & I left Henry & Ola walking on the Piazza & went to pay visits but saw no one but Mr Moore who came down into the gondola & said his mother Mme Noce was not well eno’ to see me. The Adl is gone & they are staying at the Grand Hotel a few days. I returned to fetch Henry & Ola & brought them home to tea. Mme Andrian came to call. We dined at 7.30 & Henry took girls to the Malibran theatre to see a ballet called “Zola.” I went to bed early–
