10 March 1891 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Tuesday. 10th [March 1891]. Henry took out Ivor & Cornelia in the morning. I remained at home & worked at Nela’s portrait. After luncheon I & Nela went out with Ivor & C & we walked by the Rialto to the Piazza. It began to rain & was very muddy under foot. Arrived at the Piazza our party divided & Ivor & I went to Clerle’s shop at the Ponte dei Dai & spent some time looking thro’ his things & we returned home in the gondola—Nela & Cornelia walking home. Had tea. Mme Wiel & Miss Carden came to call. I read aloud to Henry before dinner. Mrs Eden, Mr Brown, Monsr Passini & Mr Malcolm dined with us. Miss Carden, Mr Woods & Pss Olga Montenegro came in the evening. I got an answer from Passini as to what I owed him for Henry portrait. The sum is 6000 fcs. It is rather a large one for us to give, but the portrait is so fine I am glad to pay it.
