10 April 1891 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Friday. 10th April [1891]. Painted all morning. Had a visit from Miss Green who leaves here tomorrow. After lunch Isabel Somerset came for me and we went out together dropping Henry & Nela at the Brandolins to pay them a visit, we went on to Moses of the Tower & there concluded Isabel’s bargains. She bought the Farmacia wood work & many other things & spent a large sum. It was 5 before we had finished & we went on to call on the Edens. Mr Eden was just at the door—Carry was out—but he asked us in & gave us tea. I then returned Isabel at her Hotel Brita & went to the Stabto Venezia & Murano where Henry & Nela were waiting & brought them home– Nela & I got out at S. Tomà & went in search of cut flowers but we found none till we got to the Ponte delle Ostreghe & got a lot there for 1.50—went to the steamer landing opposite our house & was fetched across by our gondola. I reposed till dinner time on sofa & read aloud to Henry. In evening had our trios. They played Schuman’s 2nd trio—an andante from Chopin & the grand trio of Beethoven. While talking at lunch of the small dances wh are constantly given here & to wh we are not asked it struck me that I wd let the girls have a hop—& decided to give a cotillion on Tuesday next—so I invited those who came to us the eveng the della Grazias—Edens—Giorgios—Montenegros &c.
