23 April 1891 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Thursday. 23rd April [1891]. This evening there was a ball given by Ct & Css Papadopoli & Ct Angelo P. to the Duke & Duchess of Genoa & Princess Elvira of Baviera & P. & Pss Ferdinand. It was not a very large ball—as those only were asked who had been presented or who had asked for audiences. We were invited at 4.30 & waited some time until the Royal party arrived, & dancing did not begin until then. Henry was fetched to dance with Pss Elvira in the quadrille d’honneur. It was rather a dull stiff ball & the Venetian society here unused to Royalty & also many presentations had to be made. Henry left early, I followed with the girls at 2 when the Royal party went to supper.
