20 May 1891 — Paris | |
Wednesday. 20th May [1891]. Arthur Layard’s letter to me was so alarming about Frederick that we telegraphed to ask how he was & got for answer “about the same.” Henry & I went to lunch at the Grand Hotel at 1. It was very crowded. We had an excellent lunch at 5 fc a head. Wine, coffee & chasse caffé included. We sat at a small table opposite 2 French men who were very polite & with whom we exchanged wines. Then went to call on Mr Atlee at his office & sat a little while & chatted with him. Went to Michaud’s to order & chose gowns & then back to the Hotel. It rained nearly all day. Dacre, Edward & Blanche dined at a Restaurant & went to the Theatre Francais. Henry & I were too anxious abt Fred to go out & dined at the hotel & went early to bed. | |
