30 May 1891 — 1 Queen Anne Street
Saturday. 30th May [1891]. There was such a thick fog in the morning at 8 that I went to sleep again & it was 9 when I woke. So I breakfasted in bed & got up directly after. At 12 I went to have a guitar lesson from Mrs Sydney Pratten—& learnt her Indian March. Sr Smargiassi & Nellie Alderson came to lunch. At 3 Henry & I went to St James’ Hall to Sarasates 1st Concert. He played the Habanera & the adagio of Chopin as Encores & I liked them better than the Mackenzie & Bruch &c wh he played with orchestra. I went behind the scenes with Henry & made his acquaintance but had hardly time to speak to him as he was called for his last encore. Home to tea– General Sir Collingwood Dickson came to tea—& sat sometime with us. He says Lady D. is better. He told us how he has been made “Master gunner” an honorary distinction very gratifying– He told us abt the last days of Sir Patrick Colquhoun who has left his wife nothing & all his money to his illegitimate daughter Lady Redhouse! Henry dined at Lord Salisburys dinner in Arlington St to celebrate the Queen’s birthday & I dined at Pk Crescent to celebrate Nela’s birthday & Henry came to fetch me & took me home.
