3 August 1891 — Motcombe House, nr. Shaftesbury, Dorset
Monday. 3rd August [1891]. I breakfasted in bed & got up by 11 when we drove over to Inwood, Henry & I in the waggonette & Merthyr & Theo on the box. We started in a tremendous thundershower & had rain on & off all the drive but it cleared when we got there & we were able to walk about in the grounds to see the improvements. Luff came over from Blandford to meet us & brought Merthyr things he had bought for him from the Hambro’s sale at Milton Abbey. We lunched at 2—& then went to see the new semicircular hot house & other improvements in the garden. Came in to tea. Luff returned home to Blandford & we set off after tea to return to Motcombe & had it fine & pleasant. Halma in eveng.
