7 August 1891 — Talygarn, nr. Llantrisant, Glamorgan
Friday. 7th August [1891]. We left Taly Garn by 10.40 train & had to change at Cardiff. We reached Paddington abt 5.30 & went straight home to 1 Q. Anne St. Just after we arrived Mama’s maid came to the door with a message & told me that Blanche & Edward were just off to Ireland so I ran round with her to 17 Cavendish Sqr & there fd them having tea before starting. I had tea with them & saw them off ¼ hour afterwards. They had Olwen with them. Mr Walter Ponsonby Edward’s father was also there. He & Lady Louisa are staying there till tomorrow. As Blanche & Edward were leaving Lady Hanover came to call on Mama & I stayed to help to entertain her & Miss Herbert her granddaughter. Lady Hanover & my mother had been contemporaries & rivals in Wales in their youths & now they were both old & getting blind tho’ Lady L. a little shrivelled up old lady is much old & alas less blind than my mother. When she left I hurried home & found Mrs Henry White waiting to see me—& after she left came Mrs Holmes White Henry’s cousin. Merthyr came up here yesterday but was gone to a puppy show today & did not return till after dinner when I had gone to bed tired out.
