10 September 1891 — Villa Pisani, Vescovana
Thursday. 10th September [1891]. We had our early breakfast on the little terrace outside our bedroom surrounded by oleander plants. I practised the guitar & then abt 11 we walked in the garden with the Countess– Lunch at 12. Sat talking till 4 o’cl tea– At 4.30 Henry & I drove in the open carriage & followed her in her brougham to a farm called the Pioppa & came home just as it was dark. There was a splendid red sunset wh was before us as we drove home—& the Vescovana campanile stood dark against a molten sky. The Countess said she was glad her property lay Eastwards as she always therefore drove towards the setting sun– Dinner 7.30.
