11 September 1891 — Villa Pisani, Vescovana
Friday. 11th September [1891]. Breakfast on our terrace– Practised the guitar &c. Went out in the garden at 11 with the Css & watched the sinking of an artesian well– At the depth of 6 metres a little water was found & they were going double the depth– We had to come away to lunch at 12– I went for a drive to Palazzo Rosso with the Css after tea. Henry remained in the garden & watched the progress of the well which was a decided success as they came upon a bed of sand with copious water of excellent quality.
