13 September 1891 — Villa Pisani, Vescovana
Sunday. 13th September [1891]. Henry & I went to church—& the service was done by our new chaplain Mr Evelyn Hodgson who preached an excellent short extempore sermon tho’ his delivery was not very good or his voice very audible. Had tea at 4.30 & we went out again. Henry dropped me at church as the service was at 5 & he went to the Eden’s garden where I joined him. Our service was evening prayer & a very short sermon– The Edens welcomed us warmly– We met there Edith Bronson who is here for a day or 2 only, & is going to Asolo. Dined at 7 & went out in gondola. Took a turn on Piazza wh was crowded & the band playing—all the caffés full. Beautiful moonlight & cool evening.
