25 September 1891 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Friday. 25th September [1891]. Lovely bright cool weather. Up to tea in our room at 7– Practised the guitar before breakfast at 9. Wrote letters. At 3 o’cl Archbishop Farrar came with his son to make our acquaintance & see our pictures. He was very pleasant—we spoke of our mutual friend Dean Stanley & he told us of his last moments & how he had given him the last Communion & taken down the last night his message to the people of England recommending to their care Westr Abbey. Henry went away in gondola. I walked to the Rezzonico & had tea with the Brownings. She has her cousins Mrs & Miss Schlesinger staying with her—both pretty women. Mme is sister to Miss Cornelia Berly who stayed with the Brownings 2 winters ago. Mrs G. Howe was also there a nice & amusing American. I came home by 5.30. The Belmondos called & also Mme Villari & her daughter Mrs Hulton– Had very little time left to read to Henry. Dined 7.30. Went for a turn on the Piazza—met Mr & Hilda & Henrietta Montalba & walked with them. They have been at Venice all the summer.
