10 October 1891 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Saturday. 10th October [1891]. Heard from Ola to say she & Dacre will be leaving to come here on 16th. Wrote to invite Ruth also. Painted all the morning & got into despair over my own portrait. Went in sandolo with Henry to the Eden’s garden & there met a charming old lady of 80 the Honorable Mrs G. Edgecumbe—pretty & bright & amusing & with it all so blind she cannot read or write. She was kind eno’ to say she wanted to know me as she was intimate with my sister Constance Eliot. Returned home at 5.30, put up flowers Mrs Eden had given me & read aloud to Henry. Mr & Mrs & Miss Maxwell Lyte dined also Mr Malcolm.
