15 October 1891 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Thursday. 15th [October 1891]. Sent the Sposi out in the morng. I began to paint my portrait but was terribly interrupted. Had a farewell visit from Mrs G. Edgecumbe as she leaves here tomorrow. Mrs Howe also came with 2 ladies to see the pictures. I am sorry old Mrs Edgecumbe is gone she is so nice & kind—she & I talked over my sister Constance of whom she is very fond. When she left we kissed & parted like old friends. After lunch Henry took the Sposi in gondola to Murano. I went in the sandolo left cards & then to the Edens garden. Carry was alone & we had a nice saunter picking flowers & talking & had tea out of doors. Pss Iturbide came just before I left about 5 & found the others back from Murano & having tea. I set up our telescope & we saw Jupiter & 3 satellites thro’ it beautifully—also the moon– Dined at 7.15 & Henry took the sposi to the opera “Crespino”. I remained at home & wrote letters. Regina’s child much worse.
