16 October 1891 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Friday. 16th October [1891]. Painted in morng. Sent Hoares out in sandolo with Gigio the new boy. Lunch at 1. Henry went to the service for Capt. Haselwood & he & Mr Hoare joined Ida & me at the Lido. We went there in the sandolo. It was a magnificent day like June—there had been a fog in the early morng wh detained the Rubatino steamer wh was bringing the body & so it did not arrive & they had the service in memoriam. I came back from the Lido in gondola with Henry & left the Hoares to come in sandolo. Mr Hulton came to tea & we afterwards looked thro’ the telescope at Jupiter. I read aloud before dinner. Heard from England that Ruth is coming out with Ola, Dacre & Mr Williams (Dacre’s partner) & they start tomorrow. Splendid moonlit night & Henry took the Hoares out to the Piazza after dinner. Regina’s child dying–
