18 October 1891 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Sunday. 18th October [1891]. Went to church with the Hoares in the morning. Henry took them to the Murano regatta afternoon. I went in sandolo to church. On the way paid a visit to Ida Belmondo– After service I went across to the Eden’s garden & they gave me a few chrysanthemums. I could not stay long as I had to be home at 5 as I had asked Mr & Mrs Henry Deiken to come to tea. They came. He a rising barrister. She a very pretty young woman, née Roche– Dark with olive complexion & pretty manners. Henrietta Montalba also came. Read aloud to Henry before dinner & finished 1st vol. of Whitelock– Mr Malcolm dined with us. The Hoares went out for a moonlit row. The weather is changing & tonight it was windy.
