8 November 1891 — Villa Pisani, Vescovana
Sunday. 8th November [1891]. Better & up as usual. Breakfast at 12. Over our early breakfast Henry & I had a long talk about the cultivation of Ruth’s mind. We agree she is clever & ought to train herself by serious study & he said he would talk to her & get her to read– I also wrote out a plan of the day which I gave her & which Css Pisani also approved of & urged her to pursue. It was a dull day & cold. The Css did not go out. Henry & I took a brisk walk after lunch along the high road by the Canal & returned to 4 o’cl tea. I read aloud to him for an hour before dinner. In the evening played Halma with Ruth. Henry played patience, we went early to bed.
