30 December 1891 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Wednesday. 30th December [1891]. Painted all morning. Mrs Burr & Isabel came to lunch at 1.30. Afterwards Isabel played guitar to Ola’s mandola. It was very foggy & we did not go out. Wrote letter– News of the death of Sir Wm White our Ambr now at Constantinople. He died at Berlin of influenza– Also Prince Christian of Schleswig Holstein has had an accident out shooting & lost an eye. Mr Malcolm & Ct. & Css Belmondo dined with us and in the evening we had our Trios– Very few people came as the cold & fog has given so many people colds– The musicians even did not play so well– They played Rubinstein’s first Trio—an adagio of Schumans & a trio of Chopin. It turns out that the Patriarch is still alive tho’ very ill.
