19 January 1892 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Tuesday. 19th January [1892]. It blew half a gale today & I did not go out. Mr Lowther & Mr Farnall came to lunch & Henry meant to have taken them to Murano to see the glass blowing but a bora was blowing & they had to give up the plan and he took them to the Stabto to see the making of the mosaics. Capt. Cagni came to call & stayed till Henry came in– He asked from Canevaro abt the service which is to be held at the English church tomorrow whether he & the Genl Billia were expected to go in uniform. Henry said that by so doing they would very much please the English colony. Mr Hodgson having sent word that Mr Henley had left Venice & that he begged me to try & find an Italian organist for tomorrow. I sent for Signor Trombini & he came twice & hunted the town for me but none was forthcoming. I read aloud to Henry before dinner. Heard nothing of Mrs Burr today so hope she is going on well. Dr Cini’s mother is dead & he is in great grief & cannot go to his patients. Mrs Mackie still very ill.
