27 January 1892 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Wednesday. 27th January [1892]. At 11 o’clock there was the funeral service at our church for dear Mrs Burr. Henry & I took Isabel in our gondola– There were several of her friends present. Mme Wiel played “Lead kindly light” which we sang as Isabel had said it was Mrs Burr’s favorite hymn– No one went to the cemetery with Mr Hodgson but Mr Higford & Mr Fenile. They went in our gondola & Mrs Browning send me & Isabel in hers home. Henry walked with Ola. There was a funeral service also today for poor Mrs Mackie at 10 at S. Maria del Giglio to wh we could not go. Henry & I took a walk in Piazza after lunch. I went to enquire after Miss Sharp—& saw her nurse who seems a decent body—& she gave me a good report of her—fever gone—& very little cough– Countess Morosini (Anince) came to tea with us—& later Mrs Woods called– Isabel dined down & Mr Higford also dined with us.
