4 March 1892 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Friday. 4th March [1892]. A splendid day but very cold. Henry got up as usual. I received flower seeds from England & spent the morning sowing them. Trombini came to say he would meet Ida Bel & me at 4 in Campo S. Angelo to show her a piano he recommends for her to buy. Lunched at 1 & then at 2 I went to Palazzo Vendramin to have an audience of the Countess de Bardi who is a Portuguese Princess—pleasant young & pretty. I had been presented to her before sometime but had never asked for an audience till the Dss della Grazia said it would please her. She talked of her travels in the East & was very chatty– The lady in waiting Baroness Hertling sat there the whole time & made rather an awkward trio– I came home picked up Henry & then went to see Mlle Aspasie who is much better & was sitting up eating chicken. I found that Olga had returned from Montenegro & I went in to see her. She was looking very ill & fatigued—& said she was now suffering from the reaction. Fetched Ida Bel: & went with her to see the Piano wh she decided to take & then joined Henry in the Piazza. The snow was only thawing in the sun & lay thick in the streets. Home to tea. Mr Malcolm came to tea & Mme Colmayer, the Prefettessa– Dined upstairs & Edith Bronson with us. Had the band practise in the evening, the Stefanis & Dss della Grazia & her daughter came to it.
