5 April 1892 — Florence
Tuesday. 5th [April 1892]. Breakfasted in the sitting room. I remained in all the morng. Henry took the girls out. Mr Gerald Williams who is on his wedding tour having just married his 1st wife’s cousin had been here & on leaving for Rome had ordered a splendid bouquet of flowers for me. As they were all mounted on a basket we had to pick them all to pieces to preserve the flowers. Lunch at 1.30. Moved upstairs to the 2nd floor. I took a walk with Ola, Nela & Mrs White & her sister round the Duomo. Katie Colnaghi came to see me & walked part of the way with us. Henry, Ola & I dined with Sir Domenic & Lady Colnaghi to meet the Bishop of Gib & Mrs Sandford. There was an evening party afterwards—no one we knew except a Mrs Daniel niece of Sir Edward Thornton whom I had met at their villa near Castagnolo some years since.
