10 April 1892 — Florence
Sunday. 10th [April 1892]. I & the girls went to the English church Via La Marmora—& I had a seat in the Colnaghi pew. After lunch Henry & the girls drove in a shut cab to Villa Poggio Gherardo & I followed in an open one with Mrs White & Miss Macmillan. It was a very bright day but the wind was cold. The Ross’ were away but their old servant Fortunato received us very kindly & gave us tea in the garden—& we went over the orchid houses. The view from the terrace is splendid & we enjoyed ourselves very much. Regina who was staying close by with her relations at Settignano joined us there & returned to the hotel in the evening.
