22 April 1892 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Friday. 22nd April [1892]. Henry & I got up at 7 & had tea & then I read aloud to him from S. Simon till breakfast. I copied out some of the trial for Henry of the lutherans before the Inquisition of Venice in 1561. After lunch had a visit from young Lady Magheramorne (née Ashley) who is here for a short time & whose sister Lady Margaret Levett I know since she was a child. She is very handsome & tall & good figure & has been married abt 2 years—& has a charming manner. Sir Henry Thompson went to pay Ida Belmondo a visit. The girls took Henry to the Lido in the sandolo– Mr Thompson & I went out in gondola at 4 o’cl—to Richetti’s & Rietti’s shops & there joined Sir Henry Thompson—but finding he preferred to walk home we left him & went for a row towards the Lido & met the sandolo party returning. I read aloud before dinner to Henry. Mr Malcolm dined. Mrs White & Miss Macmillan came after dinner to say they were leaving for Paris on Sunday. They stayed an hour chatting.
