2 May 1892 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Monday. 2nd [May 1892]. Sir Henry Thompson took photos in Henry’s library. He was out at the Archives. After lunch had visits from Mrs Wise & son & daughter (friends of Eliza Whites). Then Lady Harriet Hervey—after Mrs Osborn, her daughter & Sir Algernon Osborn of Chicksands. I had known her as a girl St Quentins. At 4 Henry, the girls & I went to tea with Countess Brandolin to meet the D. & Dss of Genoa. There were a few people there—the Albrizzi, Forzoni, Morosini, Persico, Belmondos &c—a select party. The Genoas did not turn up till 5.30 so we had to hang about & wait all that time. M. & Mme d’Adda were there—Dss Brandolin’s parents– I had not seen her since she came to stay here & found her much altered in intelligence & speaking with difficulty. After a little talk with the Dss of Genoa I sat myself down with Ida Bel and Mme Forzoni & we eked out the time with small talk till past 7 the Dss smoking & chatting till then when she got up & left & we returned home. Ida Bel: was still anxious & unquiet but all went off to her satisfaction as the object of her jealousy Css Albrizzi was absorbed with Royalty & she saw that her husband was not attracted by her. N.B. Css A is my age with 2 grown up daughters—& very small shred of reputation left to her—she is said to have now living with her Ct Correr a married man with a grown up son & daughter. We had the band practise. Browning & Trombini dined with us.
