4 May 1892 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Wednesday. 4th May [1892]. Nela read aloud all the morning to me while I hemstitched a handkerchief for Ida Bel: After lunch I had a visit from Mrs Shaw Taylor, Augusta Gregory’s sister. At 4 we all went to tea with Mrs Curtis to see their son Ralph’s sketches of India & Japan– Not many people there. La belle Comtessa Morosini was there & we were glad that Sir Hy Thompson she see our Venetian beauty. He greatly admired her. On our return Sir Henry took cocoa together in the drawingroom & had a little chat. He talked of his failing health & how he was making up his mind to give up work & how glad he was to have been able to make his 1000th operation before he left home– I then went upstairs wrote a couple of letters & read aloud to Henry before dinner. After dinner Css Brandolin & Lady Shrewsbury & her cousins Mrs & Miss Cockerell came for a little while.
