8 May 1892 — Ca’ Capello, Venice | |
Sunday. 8th May [1892]. Fine day. Church in morng very crowded. Afternoon, went with Nela & Mr Thompson in sandolo to Eden’s garden. Henry & Sir H. T. went to see Genl de Horsey & Henry joined us alone at the garden. There were many English people there Mr & Mrs Harrison & Miss Stanley Clarke, Mrs Melville & Lady H. Hervey & her daughter & Miss Douglas. There was also Css Giustina Valmarana & her children there. I picked a bunch of Iris to take home & try to paint them. Nela went back in gondola with Henry in gondola. I with Mr Thompson– I went to see Pss Olga Montenegro. Found her very sad & ailing. She clung round my neck & cried poor little thing. She said the Empr of Russia had been very kind & was going to pay all her debts & give her a pension & she is going for some months to Montenegro. Sir Henry Thompson was giddy this morning & did not get up to breakfast—but he was better in the evening. Dined at 8 the girls & Mr Thompson went out after dinner. I played the harmonium to Sir Henry. | |
