16 May 1892 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Monday. 16th May [1892]. Worked at my plants—made cigarettes. After lunch went with Mrs Osborn & her daughter to the Eden’s garden leaving Mme de Hurtado & Mr Ramsay who came to call, with Henry. Had tea at the garden wh was resplendent with roses. Met Ersilia Canevaro there who had been there for the 1st time since the death of her boy Dicky. We came home about 6. Henry went to the station to meet the Archbishop of York & Mrs Maclagan and Mr Victor Williamson who came from Bergamo to stay 2 or 3 days with us. They arrived at 6.30. We had known him as Bishop of Lichtfield at the Rates. The Du Cane girls moved into one small room to allow the Maclagans to have their front rooms. Mr Williamson had a room on the ground floor next the Thompsons. Pretty hot weather. The girls went out in sandolo after dinner & left Mr Thompson & Mr Brown & smoking party. Carry Eden came in the evening to see Mrs Maclagan.
