5 June 1892 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Sunday. 5th [June 1892]. Whitsun. We all went to church– The chaplain was there—the Bishop preached. At 4 we had a visit from Mrs Holford of Dochester House & Lady Hilda Keppel who are coming here to stay a little while. Visit also from the Dss della Grazia who leaves tomorrow for Austria. Gave them tea & then went off to the Eden’s garden & started thence in their launch for a picnic. We went to S. Francesco in Desuto & landed under the Cross & there dined. A great thunderstorm rolled around us & threatened so that we dared not linger but it did not overtake us. It was a lovely moonlit night & it was so delightful we were sorry to have to come home– It was very picturesque at S. Francesco to see the old monks come out of the convent & march into their garden praying as they went– We did not approach them. Besides us & the Edens Edith Bronson & Mr F. & Miss Cox went to the picnic.
