18 June 1892 — 1 Queen Anne Street
Saturday. 18th June [1892]. I went out in the morng to see Blanche & found one of her children has chicken pox. Bought some gloves– Home to lunch. Edward P. came to see Henry & they had a long talk about the troubles in the British Museum caused by Mr Maunde Thompson & Mr Budge. Mrs Henry White (Kangaroo) came to lunch. At 3 drove out with Henry. We went to try & see the collection of Lady Waterford’s drawings on view at Lord Brownlow’s house. This being the last day there was such a crowd we gave it up in despair & went on to call on Mr & Mrs Watts. He was at home & recd us most kindly. He was looking very well. Mrs Watts came in later. He was most enthusiastic abt Lady Waterford’s drawings & said he placed her almost above every one of the present day for colour & sentiment. He said that the objection to her want of drawing was quite beside the mark & many who cd draw correctly had no genius. He deplored that the drawings now collected together should be dispersed & wished a number cd have been kept & placed in a gallery for ever. They are now shown in Ld & Lady Brownlow’s house for a charity– We dined at home alone–
