1 July 1892 — 1 Queen Anne Street
Friday. 1st July [1892]. My 49th birthday. Mrs Rate came to see me. Ola came & stayed to lunch– Had a lovely red despatch box as a present from Sir Henry Thompson. Also presents from Maria, Kate & the Du Cane girls. Drove with Kate & went to see Mrs Rate who leaves town tomorrow & gave me a lovely silver inkstand. Came home to tea expecting Connie who did not come– Went out afterwards to call on old Mrs Fritts at Thompson’s hotel in Cav. Sqr. Then on to Blanche & Mama. Had a dinner party consisting of Maria, Ola & Nela, Nelly Alderson, Mama, Mr Clark, Mr Thompson– Afterwards the twin Du Canes, Louis, Miss Sharp came in & we played round games of cards till past 11– Had tea & dispersed.
