17 August 1892 — Bere Cottage, Bere Regis, Dorset
Wednesday. 17th [August 1892]. Arthur was gone off to town to attend to his railway business by the time we were down for breakfast & only returns tomorrow. I spent all the morning with Nelly helping her to model a little clay figure– Mr Post went fishing till luncheon at 1.30. Modelled again till 3.30. Went out driving with Henry & Nelly to a farm house & dear little old church called Brin Piddleton. We got the keys from the farm house & charming little house with an old fashioned garden filled with sweet flowers, fruit & bees. Then returned to Bere & had our tea out of the basket in a field near the river. Then I fished but got nothing but one tiny trout wh we put back– I remained with the keeper until nearly 8 & we went further up the river & tried several rivers but without success & it was dark when I came in & Mr Post had not had better luck. It was been such a lovely warm day– The harvest has begun & the country looks charming. Dined at 5.30 & played patience with the help of Mr Post–
