4 October 1892 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Tuesday. 4th [October 1892]. Busy morning cutting out a blouse & also arranging my clothes with Alexandrine. After lunch I went out with Henry; we called on the Bentivoglios who were out & then went to the Piazza. On passing S. Gregorio we saw that most of the old convent is being pulled down to make place for a new Palazzo wh is to be built by Massarol the wine merchant– It is rather a pity to see the old place disappearing but it must have been in a ruinous state & the church behind is now used as a magazine. Read aloud to Henry before dinner. Henry & Ola went out after dinner. I played patience & went early to bed. After lunch I went over to pay Mr Malcolm a visit & found him putting down his carpets preparatory to the arrival of the Empress Fred: I wanted to hasten him on but found it impossible.
