19 October 1892 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Wednesday. 19th October [1892]. Began to copy for Henry his work in the Archives about the Duc de Rohan. A thundery day & cold the autumn quite set in. The Kentsfords came to call after lunch & we begged them to come & dine as they leave Venice tomorrow. Henry took them to the Venezia & Murano to see Mosaics made & then returned & took me & Miss Cadogan to Mme Hurtado’s. We had to go with the felze. Ola & Miss Sharpe walked there. Met the Hultons & Mrs Dundas & Mme Wiel– The latter (Theodora’s niece) began to speak abt the lawsuit coming on abt Lady Westr’s will. I said I could not understand that for the sake of a fancied right to some money the Duke should wish to take away his sister’s character & make out his mother mad– She agreed partly but of course sided more or less with the Duke & I told her how mistaken all her family were as to their views of Merthyr’s character—& told her how good & noble he was. Came home & read aloud to Henry till dinner. The Kentsfords, Mr Penrice & Mr Montalba dined with us. Mr Malcolm did not come. Mr Colvin left us.
