19 November 1892 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Saturday. 19th [November 1892]. Henry breakfasted in bed & I by his side. Ola & Stella also in their rooms. Cini allowed Stella to get up. I went out after lunch in gondola to make visits found no one at home. Stella read to Henry & I wrote letters after tea. She came down to dinner but was faint so had to go up to her room. She had studied the violin an hour in afternoon. We dined at 7 & went to the Rossini to see “Athenaide” by Tirindelli. A teatrone—a quite full house but the opera was heavy & not much applauded tho’ all Tirindelli’s friends tried to encourage & help– The Author himself led the orchestra which was good & all acted & sang well & with spirit but, in vain, the public was cold & one saw that Tirindelli’s spirits were going down. We got home shortly before 12 & I found Stella still awake & with fever. She had been practising since we went out & was over tired.
