17 December 1892 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Saturday. 17th December [1892]. When I got up this morning I found I had a stiff neck—but I managed to sit for my portrait & Passini said he would only want me to sit once more later on. My neck hurt me more & more & after he was gone I had to lie on the sofa & about 4 was so bad I had to go to bed. Mrs Eden came to see me & later Mrs Dyer came. We had invited the Wiels, Mrs Hulton, Mr Penrice, Count Rucellai, Ct Belmondo & Clara Montalba but I had to give up all idea of entertaining them & to leave it to Ola– We made Stella Dyer come to fill up the number. Clara came up to see me after dinner.
