19 December 1892 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Monday. 19th [December 1892]. I am a good deal better & got up for luncheon but could not go out. Mr & Mrs Eden came to see us at 2 to discuss how we could improve the chimneys of the drawing rooms. He also had a stiff neck so we commiserated together. It was a dull cold day—& one misses the splendid sunshine we have been having. Stella came & read to Henry. Her mother is still very unwell. The tide was dreadfully low & the Dyers are affected by the smells– Mr Montalba came to see me at tea time & stayed chatting an hour. Ola went to tea with Mme Wiel & after dinner went with Mrs Eden to a party at Mrs Hulton’s to meet Salvini the actor who is here for a few days.
