20 December 1892 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Tuesday. 20th December [1892]. Wrote in bed & got up late. Went out in gondola with Henry. He took Stella for a walk & left me with Mrs Dyer who was not well eno’ to go out & I sat with her till Stella returned & Henry brought me home. Mrs Hulton & her little girl came to tea also Mr Woods & Mr Penrice the latter stayed late discussing church affairs. Stella came & read to Henry & told him that after I had seen Mrs Dyer, Mrs Bronson’s two gondoliers came to her & were so rude in manner about getting Mrs Bronson’s house ready for the Dyers that they thought of not going there at all wh notion I endorsed in a note I sent Mrs Dyer after dinner.
