4 January 1893 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Wednesday. 4th [January 1893]. I wrote letters all the morning. Ola & Monty went out in the morning seeing churches. We had our meals upstairs as we had the dining room fire arranged according to Mr Edens measures & had to give up the room to the masons. Monty Alderson left us by the 2.50 train to return to the Pasolinis at Rome. I went out with Henry to the Piazza to take a walk. Home to tea. Marquise Pandolfi came to be with her 2 daughters & the fiancé of the elder one. The sposi seemed very silly & whispered together the whole time. Mr Dyer came also & remained on so that I had a long talk with him abt Stella’s dress– We think she is not well dressed & try to persuade her parents how necessary a thing it is that she should be so. Henry went to Ca’ Alvisi for Stella to read to him & when he returned I read to him for an hour before dinner. The weather much milder & sunshine.
