9 January 1893 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Monday. 9th January [1893]. Ola went off to Vescovana to stay with Countess Pisani escorted as far as Padua by Miss Holas & thence by Maria the Css’ maid. I wrote a lot of letters all the morning. After lunch went out with Henry. Practised the harmonium as no one came at tea time excepting Mr Montalba who was engaged to dine with us & came to cry off as he is threatened with an attack of lumbago. Stella came to read to Henry & she & Mr & Mrs Dyer dined with us also Mr Woods. I gave him from the Empress a photo that arrived for him today. There was also one for me. Mr Malcolm came over in the morning with the carpenter to arrange about fixing our bath. After dinner Mr Innes Vine & I played the harmonium by turns & so passed the evening.
