18 January 1893 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Wednesday. 18th January [1893]. The news of Malcolm this morning is not worse tho’ he is not out of danger. The weather is so fine that we thought of going to the Lido to walk & invited Stella but she cd not go & the sun disappeared & it was so cold we gave it up. I worked the sewing machine in the morng. After lunch I read aloud to Henry for an hour & we went out in gondola I to Mrs Dyer & Henry to see the Edens. When Henry came to Stella to be read to I went home to tea. M. Cozzi & Baroness Landauer came to tea & later Countess Tiepolo & her daughter Mlle Ridolfi. I tried to practise the harmonium but it was out of order so I had to give it up & played the guitar till Henry came in to dinner. Played patience in eveng. There came a telegram signed P. & Pss Adolf Lippe, Prince Fred. Charles of Hesse & Pss Margaret of Prussia enquiring after Malcolm. Countess Marcello has been worse again—& there seems great doubt of ultimate recovery.
