19 January 1893 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Thursday. 19th January [1893]. Malcolm had passed una notte inquista but Cini found him better on the whole—but he told Regina whom he saw this morning that he was not yet out of danger. I wrote—practised the guitar. At 3 went to the Dyers where Stella, Trombini & Mr Dini played a trio of Schuman’s to us & we had tea. At 5 I went to see Ida Bel: whom I found in bed with a cold. She said Css Ricardi the Dss of Genoa’s lady had been to see her to say the Dss would not come to us to hear Stella play until after her own ball on 24th next week. I went home. Practised the guitar again until Henry returned from Stella’s reading & I then read Saint Simon to him till dinner. We dined still [in] the studio. I wrote invitations for tomorrows Trios. Dressed & at 10 went out to Marchesa Pandolfi & took Ct Belmondo with me. It is a party given for the eldest daughter’s marriage which takes place Saturday. As we came in I was alarmed to see lights in Malcolm’s house wh is generally quite dark—no lamps being seen in his hall.
