27 January 1893 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Friday. 27th January [1893]. I sat to Passini for my portrait wh is now finished. He also touched up the one he did last year & made a present of it to Ola. Carrie Eden came to fetch me after lunch & I went off to walk with her. We called on Tea Marcello but she did not receive & went from there to Mrs Hulton whose day it was. Met there Css Bianchi & Senatore Santa Maria, Procuratere del Rè. All the talk was of Andriana Marcello & her loss to everyone. We thence walked round (from S.S. Giov. e Paolo where the Hultons live) to Bss Mayneri—another “day” & then I came home to tea. The Pss of Georgia came to tea & was very pleasant. She complained of the incivility of the society here to foreigners in wh I agreed with her. I read aloud to Henry an hour. Stella came & read also a short time & stayed dinner & her parents joined her. Henry walked with Ola in afternoon & joined Mrs Dyer & Stella at the public gardens.
