7 February 1893 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Tuesday. 7th February [1893]. Ersilia & Maria Cozzi came to lunch at 1 with us. I gave them English food lamb & mint sauce, toasted cheese, cock a leekie soup and they were much pleased. When they were gone we (Henry & I) went to walk on the Riva Schiavoni. Ola still keeps her bed. It was a lovely day very warm in the sun but chilly in the shade. We went in to see the Dyers for a moment on our way home—& also stopped to leave cards on the Valmarana family—the old Count having died this morning. Home to 5 o’cl tea. Mrs Curtis, Mr Penrice, Marchesa Pandolfi came to tea– When I went upstairs afterwards I found Henry coughing a great deal & seeming anything but well. I regretted that we were dining out– We dined with the Edens at 7.30 & dinner & champagne seemed to cure Henry. Mrs Eden & I went to Mrs Hulton who had a small party & a little dancing. I came home abt 12.30. Henry woke abt 3 A.M. with a bad cough & had a bad night.
