13 May 1893 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Saturday. 13th May [1893]. I got up by 10 & sat to Passini till 12 that he might finish & retouch my portrait which he much improved. After lunch had a visit from old Mrs Brown & then went to the Eden’s garden– The roses were quite splendid—the day lovely. We remained there till 5. On the way home we passed the Royalties in gondola & the Pss of Wales called out to ask me how I was. Mrs Hulton came to see me abt 6—also Mr Dyer, Clara Montalba, Mme Kwekwitsch & Ida Belmondo. She brought me some pearls to see as I want to improve my row– Henry then said he wd give me a row of nice ones so she is going to get me better.
