25 January 1894 — Naples | |
Thursday. 25th [January 1894]. Got up at 8. Breakfast 9.30. Wrote & read & worked in morng. Read life of Marcaurelius in Italian. Lunch at 1. Fine day, Vesuvius smoking hard. Took a cab & Henry & I went to Vinaccia Rue Calabana 54 & gave him my old guitar to arrange. Degani at Venice had arranged it & made it so thick in the handle that I cd scarcely play it. Vinaccia promises to give it back to me finished on 5th Feb. We drove back to the Chiara gardens & sat there a little while to hear the band play, & returned to our hotel abt 5 & had a cup of tea. I read aloud St Simon to Henry. Dined at table d’hôte at 7. Played patience. Bed at 10. | |
