31 January 1894 — Naples
Wednesday. 31st January [1894]. I stayed indoors & painted roses. Henry went to the Aquarium where Dr Dothin’s secy showed him the animals & had them fed &c. It was a fine day & at 2 we hired a carriage & taking the 2 servants went for a drive thro’ the tunnel & back by Posillipo. Then to tea. After going to leave a card at Hotel Vesuvius for D. Carlo d’Adda to tell him Henry has heard from the Duke of Sermoneta at Rome to say Profr Bernabei has given orders to Profr de Petra here to give us a “schavo” & we wd take D. Carlo & Margharita with us. Read to Henry before & after dinner—till we were silenced by our German next door neighbour who kept banging on the door tho’ it was only a little past ten.
