3 February 1894 — Naples
Saturday. 3rd February [1894]. Woke rather headachy so breakfasted in bed—but was ready at 10.30 when the Dss of Ravaschieri called for us in her carriage & took us to the Filangieri Museum in the Palazzo Como. A handsome building in which is her brother P. Filangieri’s collection of fine things. We spent all the morning there & Prince Cellamare also was there & explained things. While looking at the things an old Quakeress addressed me “Thou wilt excuse my asking you” about these things & then told me she was Canadian & delighted to find someone to ask as she knew no Italian. The Dss was very polite to her & when the old Lady heard she was of the Filangieri family she begged me to write down her name that she might write home to her sister all abt this morning. She was pretty & quiet but had a blue quaker bonnet & a fur cape. I had thought Quakeress’ always wore gray. We got back to lunch– Did not go out again till after tea when we walked down the sea wall & back. Read aloud to Henry before dinner. Lovely day—warmish.
