2 March 1894 — Florence
Friday. 2nd March [1894]. We breakfasted at 9 & were just starting for Poggio Gherardo when Lina Duff Gordon appeared with her maid Felicie—so Lina got into our cab & Felicie remained with Bertha. We drove off & had a lovely drive. The streets are full of flowers to be sold & the sun was bright & hot & the sky blue—quite a spring day. We lunched with the Ross’ & Lina & I played the guitar together & we sat in the garden in the shade of the camphor tree for it was too hot to sit in the sun. Abt 4 we drove back. Sir Domenic Colnaghi came to call & took me out to have some tea at the arts & crafts tea room 3 or 4 doors from our hotel. We dined at 7 as last night.
