9 March 1894 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Friday. 9th March [1894]. Our silver wedding day. Up to 9 oclock breakfast. There was a thick fog which cleared off in the afternoon– I had a busy morning. Css Brandolin & her daughter came to see us– Also Ersilia Css Canevaro– We received quantities of bouquets of lovely flowers, a good many silver presents. Our servants presented us with a charming plated tazza & we had 9 telegrams & many letters. Henry gave me the 3 pearl rows & I gave him some desert knives, forks & spoons of Cortelazzo’s work. I had rather a headache & had to remain in my room all the afternoon till tea time. We dined at 8 & had the D & Dss Della Grazia, Mrs Bronson, Mrs Brown & Mr Horatio Brown, Mr E. Moore, Mr C. Gifford Dyer, & Revd Mr Carey. After dinner a few more friends came & we danced until abt 1.30. Henry & I lead off the “Sir Roger” at the end of the evening. We were tired & glad to retire to rest after all the excitement of the day—very thankful for having been spared to keep this day—& to look back on 25 years of married life—without a quarrel or a separation of 24 hours! & to have so many kind friends to share our happiness with us.
